Toastmasters District 71 Humorous Speaking and Table Topics Contest


Cogito Toastmasters Dublin would like to congratulate the following Toastmasters on their success at the Steel City Conference:

Ken Siviter who won the Division Director of the Year award. Cogito Toastmasters Dublin were fortunate to have Ken attend as a visiting toastmaster this year. Ken is a true gentleman and worthy winner.

Dermot Carey of Division M who finished second in the District 71 Humorous Speaking Contest. Dermot performed his hilarious speech entitled “In Defence of a National Institution”. This accomplishment illustrates Dermot’s impeccable speaking skills, given the quality of the speakers in the humorous speaking contest.

Shalini Sinha of Division M who finished third in the District 71 Table Topics Contest. Shalini’s impromptu speaking skills were challenged when asked “Winter – like it or hate it?”. Armed with her quick wit Shalini tackled the table topic terrifically, offering vivid descriptions of her native Canada.

As the year draws to a close Cogito would like to thank all those who made this year at Cogito a great success. Thanks to our members who make our meetings so enjoyable. Without them there wouldn’t be a Cogito. Thanks to all our guests for attending during the year and taking the first steps on your toastmaster journey. Thank you to all visiting toastmasters from across the globe who’s advice has gone on to improve our club. Thank you to our committee who perform Trojan work behind the scenes. Also thank you to our Area Director Oonagh Farrell for her continued support throughout the year. Finally to all those in Area 7, Division M, and District 71 for their hard work throughout the year.

Cogito will be back on the 9th of January for our next meeting. Hope to see you there.

Cogito Toastmasters Dublin ChristmasCogito Toastmasters Dublin cordially invite you to our Annual Christmas Party. This years party takes place after our meeting on Tuesday the 12th of December.

For all you good boys and girls we have some excellent speeches.

Our Wise evaluators have ditched the gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Instead they bring the gift of feedback.

Our Topics Master has filled Santa’s sack to the brim with terrific table topics.

Afterwards we will be rockin around the Christmas tree in the bleeding horse.

The theme for this week’s meeting is Missed Opportunities. Don’t miss your opportunity to improve your speaking skills this Tuesday.

Winter is coming

Shorter Days and Longer Nights

With Winter well and truly here our theme for this weeks meeting is “Shorter days and longer evenings”.

In an attempt to brighten up your long evening this Tuesday we will have speeches from Edwina, Hazel, Suzanne, Miguel, and Brendan. Providing feedback on the night to our speakers will be our evaluators Rebecca, Oonagh, Germaine, Michael, and Maura.

Our Topics Master Derville will be putting members impromptu speaking skills to the test with her terrific topics.

Christmas has come early for Cogito Toastmasters as this weeks meeting theme is the meaning of Christmas.

Our evaluators will be deciding whether speakers Rebecca and John have been naughty or nice. While our Topics master Hazel will have plenty of topics in her sack.

If you want to stay off Santa’s naughty list then join us this Tuesday.

Toastmasters Division M Contest

Congratulations to Cogito Members Hazel & Katie who performed excellently at the Division M Contest on Saturday the 20th of October at the Stillorgan Hotel.

In front of a sell out crowd both members showcased stellar speaking skills to wow the audience.

Both members are a credit to the club and Cogito are delighted in the progress they have made to date.

Cogito would like to thank all who helped in the running of the club, area, and division contests. We also wish both division M winners the best of luck in the upcoming district contest in Sheffield.

Division M Contest

Area WinnersCongratulations to our area contest champions Katie Dooley and Hazel Ni Chonbhui.

Katie & Hazel will represent Cogito Toastmasters at the Division M Contest on Saturday the 21st of October in the Stillorgan Park Hotel.

We at Cogito implore all members and friends of Cogito to support Katie & Hazel this Saturday.

Toastmaster Workshops will be running from 10:00 – 13:00. With the contest starting at 14:00.

Heroes & Villains

“In the heat of battle, heroes emerge, sometimes from the most unlikely of sources” – Brian Herbert & Kevin J. Anderson.


In line with Irelands crunch World cup qualifier against Wales on Monday night. The theme for Tuesdays meeting will be heroes & villains.


Our heroic speakers for the evening will be John, Katie, Hazel, Rebecca and Alan.

Will these speakers emerge victorious after an encounter with our villainous evaluators? Find out this Tuesday.
